Facebook and the Global Information Network have one thing especially in common, they are both social networks. While Facebook has over 800 millions active members GIN simply dosnt……… YET!

This guide is a simple hints and tips 101 on how and how not to market on Facebook. It is based on personal experience from building an exponentially growing 150 strong GIN affiliate downline business.

It seems natural to want to use Facebook to introduce people to GIN. Although, there are some basic fundamentals one should understand. In this short guide I would like to make a few pointers and tips for marketing on Facebook using FREE methods rather than paid for methods such as Facebook PPC advertising. That’s a guide for another day. I have been quite successful on Facebook using this method. Having build a downline of 150 people using FB. GIN generally recommends the offline technique of distributing CD’s to invite people to GIN and yes the majority of people have joined after listening to the “Your Wish is Your Command” CD. I think the reason GIN promotes the idea of using offline methods is because the best part of GIN is the real life meetings and seminars. Also, in any networking/MLM business if you want the big cheese (money) your downline have to be able to follow your methods and will. This is called DUPLICATION and there is more duplication with offline promotional methods such as distributing invitational CD’s as most people are more familiar with offline sales techniques and there is a higher conversion rate when people are introduced to GIN face to face. The thing is, not everybody immediately has the money for GIN tools and also some of us simply prefer social network marketing such as Facebook since we have already built business’ with it.

Facebook free social marketing guide 101:

-Spam.

Nobody likes being messaged with unsolicited sales script. This is not approved of by GIN and makes our club look unprofessional and cheap. Also, people will feel if they join GIN they will have to promote GIN in the same manner and that is simply not the case that they have to or should spam people.

-Introducing yourself to new friends on Facebook.

Facebook is a forum where people communicate with friends and family. They do not come on Facebook to buy stuff. I would not recommend adding random people on Facebook and introducing yourself with a GIN invite. Relationships, even online, take time to build and such an aggressive tactic will simply distance your potential new friend. If you are in the business of creating value for people, as most people are, then get to know them first. Find out what their challenges are in life and how you can help them with potential solutions. A good sales person listens more than they speak. That is why we as humans have two ears and one mouth. -Wall posts. Your wall is your personal space. It is generally intended for links you find interesting and your thoughts and feelings in the form of status updates or wall posts in the form of posting links. One method I find that works really well, especially if you have already built a good friends list of people that respect you and follow you, is to post the GIN link to your OWN wall. There is a simple guide for doing so here:

http://garycarlyle.com/2012/01/01/bypassing-the-facebook-censoring-of-the-global-information-network-affiliate-link/

Please do not post to raw affiliate link provided by GIN on Facebook as it is blocked by their censoring system and only brings GIN one more step closer to being banned completely by the anti-competitive lobbyists.

-Engaging your friend/subscriber list. If you are going to do Facebook marketing with GIN or other affiliate business’ then remember the 80/20 rule. 80% good honest decent content. Like personal thoughts and links and never more than 20% affiliate links. People come to your wall to see how you are and what you are doing more than they come to buy into products. If people think you are just trying to get money out for them then they will tend to ignore you and see you as greedy rather than helpful and interesting.

-Post descriptions. One can add a personal description when posting a link on Facebook. I would avoid anything remotely like “join now”. People do not like being told what to do. I would rather post about my success’ with the club and why I find it interesting and beneficial. This will develop trust over time. Generally people do not buy into something the first time they are exposed to it. Apparently it takes 7 exposures on average before people take action.

-General subscriber engagement.

The Facebook news feed is where your friends will see the new links and status updates for the day. Facebook generally displays the posts and status’ that people have LIKED the most and commented on the most. but also they tend to display the posts in others news feeds based on their previous interaction with your profile as this is an indication of how popular you are and how important you might be to individual friends. Therefore if you plan to do Facebook marketing on a professional level it is important you build engagement and interactions over time. Know matter how good an individual post is nobody will see it unless you have made popular posts in the past.

-Pages and groups.

Pages and groups are like additional Facebook profile that you can create for free and our focused on a specific topic or even a brand. Some Facebook pages have millions of subscribers and can be a great way to promote an affiliate type business. This guide currently does not cover Facebook pages and groups but there are many great guides out there and I would recommend them as pages especially can grow exponentially and are not limited by the 5,000 friends limit your personal profile has.

I hope you have found this short guide valuable and it will be updated over time as I get more inspiration for it.

Happy Inviting.
